Born and raised in California and trained in anesthesiology and pain management at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Dr. Kalra is affable and approachable. He completed a BA in psychology at UC Berkeley followed by an anesthesiology and critical care residency & a pain management fellowship at Harvard’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. This stellar program enabled him to learn first-hand Brigham’s pioneering pain and neuroplastic ketamine treatment techniques.
He was the chairman of the Cross-Campus Pain Management Team for the John Muir Health Medical Center room 2010 to 2015 and was instrumental in bringing intravenous ketamine into the hospital setting for use in chronic pain, one of the first to do so in the country. Dr. Kalra is also one of the few pain doctors nationwide invited as a pain management expert for Grand Rounds
Dr. Kalra is a strong advocate of neuroplasticity and using the body to heal itself. He offers a personalized intravenous ketamine program to enable neuroplastic changes as well as use of mindful meditation and platelet-rich plasma and stem cell therapies to give the body an opportunity to heal naturally.
