Developing the therapeutic relationship of trust is a primary goal with clients. I like getting to know my clients and giving them the chance to know me before diving into what brings someone to therapy. This alliance, developed in a confidential and non-judgmental space, allows for clarity and understanding of difficulties and the ability to begin treatment. I strive to work from a position of curiosity, inclusion, and compassion, to honor all dimensions of our humanity, and to help clients deepen their self-understanding. Watching people struggle, sometimes for decades with little relief from established interventions, I was led towards studying and using psychedelics as another treatment option. Combined with comprehensive therapeutic interventions, clients have been able to experience long-lasting shifts in perspective often leading to a reduction in symptoms more quickly than traditional talk therapy. Doing this work can allow for deep, transformative healing for those who have not found relief through traditional clinical practices.
As long as I can remember I have wanted to be a therapist, stemming from my desire to give back in the way others gave to me and my family when I was a teenager. I started working as a family therapist for an adolescent residential substance abuse center when I began my career and opened a private practice upon moving to Maryland in 1995 once fully licensed. Over the course of a 35 year career, I've worked in various agencies and settings but always maintained my practice. I have advanced training in Strategic Family Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for anxiety/depression/trauma, addictions, and am a trained trauma counselor. I am certified in Psychedelic Assisted Therapy through the Integrative Psychiatry Institute in Boulder, Co. and have experience supporting clients working with ketamine and psilocybin for mental health improvement.
