Carrie McMahon, LPCC
Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate
Paonia CO
I utilize an eclectic and relational approach which is tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual. I believe every person is the expert on their own experience and my role is to support those with whom I work to increase self-awareness, to recognize their personal freedom and responsibility, and to empower them to change and adopt healthier thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. My clients are ultimately in control of their therapeutic process and the level at which they choose to participate: their willingness to divulge, look inward, and integrate what is learned. I view therapy as a shared journey, one of collaboration and alignment of goals in which the therapist assumes the role of trusted consultant, friend, and partner.
My interest in the field of mental health emerged through a profound merging of personal and professional experiences. On a personal level, I have witnessed the transformative power of mental health care in the lives of loved ones and myself. My experience with non-ordinary states has also been an avenue through which I have come to know my Self on a deeper level. Professionally, in my time as a registered nurse of 17 years, I became increasingly disillusioned with the Western healthcare model which focused heavily on the physical body, often failing to address mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of those under its care. Combined, my experiences cultivated a deep empathy and understanding of the importance of mental health and well-being, fueling my desire to contribute meaningfully to this field in a manner that considers the whole person and promotes quality of life - physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate (LPCC) in the state of Colorado and have a Master's Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Adam's State University (2024) and I have undergraduate degrees in nursing and fine arts, am trained in integrative health and wellness coaching (NBHWC approved), and am a registered yoga teacher. I have completed VITAL psychedelic-informed practitioner training and will complete training to become a Colorado licensed psilocybin facilitator early February 2025.
